God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. There is one God, eternally existing in three co-equal persons of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Humans are both sacred and sinful. The Bible teaches we were created in the image of God. This means we are spiritual, moral, and relational beings. We are created by God to be in relationship with God, but we are marred by our disobedience toward God. The Bible calls this
disobedience “sin.” Sin separates humans from the relationship with God we were intended to enjoy.

The only way to restore our relationship with God is by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth and voluntarily paid for our sin by dying on the cross to take our punishment. He rose from the dead and will return to earth to rule forever. Accepting God’s saving grace—not our own human effort—offers the assurance of a Christ-filled eternity.

The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, draws sinners to Christ as well as equips and gifts believers for personal growth and service in the Church and in the world. The Church is the community of believers who have made Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior. The Church’s role is to bring people into a growing relationship with Jesus and serve the needs of a hurting world under the Holy Spirit’s leadership and power.

The Bible is God’s Word to humanity. It was written by human authors under the supernatural inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth and the sole basis of our beliefs. It is the authoritative rule and guide for our lives.

God calls all Christians to show compassion to those in need, and stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

The original "Jesus movement" arises out of an ancient Jewish context. In this tradition, followers were familiar with an extensive list of laws, rules, and moral guidelines. Three of the gospels report a similar story of when Jesus is asked about which commandment is the greatest. Paraphrased, His response is that we would love God and love people (Matthew 22:34-40; Mark 12:28-31; Luke 10:25-28). 

The history and beliefs of Fairview Church find their source and home in Wesleyan theology. In the 18th centuary, John Wesley's movement was spreading from England to the Americas, and he knew he would need to ordain pioneer preachers for this work. As they were pushed off the shores of Europe to set sail for the new world, "offer them Christ" was Wesley's parting mandate. In the same way the Greatest Commandment functions to boil a big tradition down to its core, so also Wesley's statement helps us to stick to the basics of what is truly our mission to the world.
